• Have your heating equipment checked by a licensed professional to ensure it is operating safely and efficiently.
  • Check your window and doors for drafts and small cracks. caulk any leaks to seal out the cold air and keep in the warm air.
  • Keep those air filters clean. Dirty air filters can restrict the air flow and decrease the efficiency of your heating system.
  • Set the thermostat of your heating unit at a lower setting-around 68 degrees should be fine. Use blankets or a light jacket if additional warmth is required. Keep in mind that each one degree reduction in temperature settings can result in as much as three percent reduction in fuel usage.
  • Take shorter showers. Reducing the amount of time in the shower can go a long way to reduce the amount of gas required by your water heater. Your water heater should be set at the low setting or no more than120 degrees. Having someone check for water leaks and make any necessary repairs can also reduce your water heating requirement.
