| Willmut
Gas Company, is a natural gas distributor based
in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, that supplies gas
to residential, commercial, and industrial
customers. Natural gas service first became
available in the area in the late 1920's, when
W. S. F. Tatum, who was Mayor of Hattiesburg,
convinced the city fathers to use natural gas.
Mississippi Public Service Corporation built an
eight-inch pipe from Rankin County and became
operational by 1933. In late 1933, W. S. F.
Tatum's son, Frank, purchased the company with
the intention of operating it long enough to
make it profitable and the new company was
christened Willmut Gas and Oil.
Today, Willmut
Gas Company is in its 66th year of operation.
Willmut Gas started supplying natural gas to
approximately 200 customers in Hattiesburg.
Today, Willmut serves over 22,000 customers from
Hattiesburg to Pearl, Mississippi. Willmut Gas
is committed to ensuring the customer is
provided with energy service that is safe,
reliable and economical and to provide that
service in a friendly manner responsible to
customer needs.
